Google Meet AI Update: Automatic Language Detection & Guest Management

Published: by Isaac Lee
One of the biggest hurdles in global hybrid meetings has been seamlessly switching between languages. Google Meet now intelligently detects the spoken language during a session one time per-meeting. This massive upgrade ensures that your meeting transcripts, summarized notes, and recorded captions accurately reflect the primary language spoken.

Automatic Language Detection for Flawless Transcripts

As mentioned on the official Google Meet product page, if the detected language does not match your current meeting language setting, a helpful nudge will appear on-screen after approximately 30 seconds of continued speech. This prompt allows you to quickly select “Change language” (or “Ignore”) and immediately restarts the generation of meeting artifacts to maintain strict record integrity.

Supported Languages and Rollout Schedule

This powerful feature is ON by default for end users. Currently, the automatic detection supports eight major languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The update follows a gradual rollout pace (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on March 26, 2026, spanning both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. It is available to customers on Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, and Education (Google AI Pro for Education). It is also broadly available to Consumer users subscribed to Google AI Pro and Ultra.

Safeguarded Guest Admit Flow

In addition to language tools, the new Safeguarded Guest Admit Flow acts as a digital bouncer, managing high volumes of knocking requests. This drastically reduces the time hosts spend manually approving participants, ensuring your global meetings start flawlessly on time.
